Scope and Contents note

From the Collection:

The Sal Castro collection documents both Castro’s personal and professional life: mostly his activism for equal education and civil rights; and his work with the Chicano Youth Leadership Conference. Though born in 1933, the collection dates back to 1930 until 2012, a year before his death. He collected materials related to activism, civil rights, education, history, politics, and sports; specifically, on the Association of Mexican American Educations, the California Human Rights Association, California universities and colleges, the Chicano Youth Leadership Conference, the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Movimento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, Scholarships for Chicano Students Night and of course, the walkouts. The collection includes artifacts, artwork, awards, correspondence, emails, financial documents, flyers, journal articles, lecture notes, memorandums, newspaper articles, photographs, presentations, prints, speeches, and subject files.
