 File — Box: 33, Folder: 71

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The correspondence consists almost entirely of letters from clients of Homeboy Industries and their families. They are almost all addressed to Father Gregory Boyle. They consist of pleas for help, thank yous for assistance, and updates on life changes. Most of the correspondents seeem to have written only one letter, but many engaged in repeated correspondence over a period of years. Many of the letter writers are incarcerated, and discuss their alleged crimes and potential parole. Theses letters provide a candid and wide-ranging view of Homeboy's constituency, a vulnerable and voiceless population subjugated by the carceral state.
